Month 5-Thailand

Hey, so we have arrived in country number 5, month 5, Thailand! We got here about 10 days ago and a lot has happened in 10 days. It’s crazy to think that we only have 15 days left in this country and then we will be half way through the Race! The start of this month started in Bangkok with a debrief. Debrief is a time for us to come together as a squad and talk about what we have been up to, share with each other different stories of how God is moving, and allow your squadmates to speak life into you in a new, cool, different way than the people you have been around every day. At debrief we were also able to spend a night evangelizing in the red-light district. Our hostel was in the outskirts of the oldest red-light district in Bangkok. (There will be a blog coming out on that in a bit but for the rest of this blog I will be talking about what I have been up to this month and what our ministry looks like this month.)

This month we are teaching English in a center that operates as Business as Missions. So the business is a for-profit company that uses their business as a way to share the gospel. We have the opportunity to help with this by teaching the classes, planning our lesson plans, and praying for our children. Also at the end of this month we will be having a Christmas party where we will be performing different skits and telling the Christmas story.

Jenn and I decided to teach the youngest group of children. They are ages 5-10, and they just started learning English. To say it has been an adventure is an understatement. If you can imagine trying to control classroom of 10 five year olds when none of them understand words like “listen” or “quite” you would understand our struggle. But even through the language barrier we were able to share the true story of Christmas and the real reason for the season. We taught the children that Jesus is a gift, Jesus is my shepherd, and Jesus is my King through games, activities, worksheets, songs, and videos. Here is a quick video of what that looked like:

As our first week comes to an end I have learned so much and cannot wait to experience Christmas in Thailand! Look out for a blog coming about our Christmas party with the students! As always, my team and I could use your help praying for these students hearts to open to receive the gospel and that as we send Christmas away from our families that we won’t get too homesick. If you would also like to financially support my team I still have a couple of teammates who aren’t fully funded yet.
