This past Monday and Tuesday we had a Leadership Development Week[end] (LDW). At LDW we l
earned about different ideas behind certain parts of our squad like prayer, evangelism, God’s Grace, and self-image. We were in the city of Sophia, Bulgaria. Sophia is a beautiful city. One night while we were on our way to dinner one of my teammates, Sarah Ann, notices a sweet little old lady who was struggling to get up the stairs so she stopped our group and we offered our assistance to her. Her name was Caterina and she spoke no English. We tried to motion to her that we would like to help her up the stairs. So we started picking up her bags and took her hand and walked her up the stairs. Once we got up the stairs she looked around and pointed in one direction and said some words in Bulgarian and started walking. So we followed her. She walked us about 6 blocks. We stopped a couple of time to ask people if they could translate for us and we were able to understand where she lived. So we walked her all of the way to her apartment. Jenn, Ashley, Sarah Ann, Heather, Brittany, David, Liz, and I were all with her taking turns carrying her bags and helping her walk. At one point we started singing Amazing Grace and she really liked that and was able to communicate that she knew that song! It was such an amazing beautiful thing. It is moments like this that I realize that this is why I wanted to come on the Race. To be God’s hands and feet.
Stay tuned to hear about what we are doing this month in Bulgaria!!
